Located at the southernmost of Central Asia, Ashhabad has shown a rapid growth by the help of rich natural resources. Ashhabad means a country of Turkmen people in Persian language. Since the start of a diplomatic relationship with Korea in 1992, two nations maintained a good relationship, which we think will help to make a synergic effect between two nations.
Turkmenistan is the fourth richest nation following Russia, the U.S. and Canada in terms of reserve of natural gas and oil. Estimated reserve of natural gas nationwide is about 10 t m3, accounting for 10 percent of reserve worldwide. Confirmed oil reserve is 213,000 ton. Along with mining industry, developed industries include chemistry, metal and machines, metalwork, carpeting, etc. And major exports are oil and natural gas, light industries products and food while imports are machines, light industries products, food and chemical products.
In the past, Turkmenistan's only economic production was agriculture and stock-farming. But now they are stepping on the globalization and limitless competition by the help of their abundant natural resources and industrial development. For example, in November 2008, they entered into an agreement with Korea to develop an oil field in the Caspian Sea.
As a capital city of Turkmenistan, Ashhabad is an economic and cultural center of Turkmenistan, and also a site where Ashhabad office of Hyundai Corporation is located.
