Algeria built a diplomatic relationship with Korea in January 1990. Among Maghreb nations (Algeria, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia), Algeria has the most growth potential. It has rich natural resource (crude oil reserve in 12.2 b barrel, and natural gas reserve, 4.5 t ㎥). Population is 34 m and GDP is 131 b dollars. And it is the geographical center connecting Middle East, Africa and Europe, so there is a great potential for investment and export.
Algeria is pushing strong innovation policies based on government's five goals, national solidarity, peace settlement, national stability, security and economic development. They developed a 4-year economic growth plan (2001-2004) and a 5-year economic growth plan (2005-2009) based on increased government revenue that resulted from high oil price since 2000. Those plans focus on three sectors: information and communications, agriculture and fisheries, and housing construction.

For those plans, Algerian government tries to implement infrastructure, including constriction of highway, railway, subway and harbor, construction of 2 m houses to resolve the lack of houses, increasing water supply, environment preservation, power plant construction, etc.
Especially, as an OPEC member, Algeria has abundant natural resources. Crude oil reserve amounts to 12.2 b barrel (raking 14th worldwide and 3rd in Africa), and natural gas reserve, 4.5 t ㎥ (ranking 8th worldwide and 2nd in Africa). Along with them, they have rich mineral resources including uranium and phosphate rocks. And solar energy in the Sahara Desert is also an important resource.
