Steel headquarters, Hyundai Corporation held training for overseas staffs in charge of steel at the Seoul head office for a week from 25th to 30th, March.

Participants around the world got general education about company’s present condition, policy and vision, efficient risk management and loan business including details of steel products. In addition, they visited manufacturing plants including Hyundai Steel, Hysco and POSCO. Visiting cultural heritages near the company building like the Changgyeong Palace, Chongmyo and Insa Dong, they could enhance understanding of Korean culture as well as of business.

Tim Davis’, Hyundai Corp. USA, gave his impressions of such training as follows.

What benefit did you get from this program?

Most of all, I could understand items better.  It was also great to have face-to-face talks with head office staffs I’ve contacted only by phone. I think such experience makes me understand others more deeply, cultivate personal intimacy with them so will be a great help to my business activities. In my opinion, this training will be a great help to the corporation, too. I had such exciting and useful experience.  I hope such an educational program will be conducted continually so my juniors will be able to enjoy benefits.

What’s the most memorable thing?

Of course, it’s a warm welcome by head office staffs. Furthermore, various people came from many branches around the world so I could have a variety of experiences. It seems to have a time for profound understanding the world.

In addition to exciting many cultural experiences, I’ll never forget the dynamic atmosphere of Korea. I wanted to have experiences as many as possible. So I participated in education sincerely and enjoyed myself. To have various experiences for a short time, I rarely slept for a week.

What’s the thing to be improved?

I think more regional agendas should have been prepared. If overseas participants can prepare particulars of the region they take charge, how about considering methods for sharing them? In my opinion, it’ll be able to make overseas staffs enhance understanding of each region and participate in education more actively.

In addition, if overseas staffs can participate in education actively, they’ll have a fruitful time. I think taking the initiative through active participation will have more desired results rather than mere following through fixing of every process.

What’s your impression about Korea?

Fortunately, thanks to the lovely weather during the education, I have only happy memory.  During the education, I experienced Korean delicious food and kind people. Especially I like energy of Seoul.

However, most Korean people seem to work so much hard. Of course, working hard has a great advantage but I think spending time with family is also required. How about taking interest in leisure?

Tell me something about your resolution hereafter.

I think business results of overseas branches depend on their staffs, leading to the development of the company. Taking this opportunity of the education, I’ll push forward business while doing my best.

Through the education, I could acquire expertise and cultivate loyalty to the company. Visiting the steel plant and meeting head office staffs, I felt strong sense of responsibility for business. Returning to my workplace at LA, I’ll show more developed professionalism and passion than before education.
