Hyundai Corporation, Hyundai M Partners, and Sopoong Ventures Make Investments in “indego” Supplier Aeonus

MAR 7, 2022

Climate-tech startup Aeonus, which supplies the eco-friendly portable generator “indigo”, announced its success in attracting a pre-series A investment on March 7.

Hyundai Corporation, Hyundai M Partners, Sopoong Ventures, and Startup Island Jeju Private Investment Fund I (Jeju Creative Economy Innovation Center and Krypton) have participated in this investment scheme.

Indigo, manufactured and supplied by Aeonus, refers to an EV battery-based energy storage system (ESS). It is an eco-friendly portable generator that can be used for community events, festivals, construction sites, and disaster-stricken areas requiring immense power instead of a diesel generator without worrying about fine dust, noise, and carbon emissions.

Aeonus also delivers regular energy subscription services to enable big companies to participate in RE100 more easily, the global corporate renewable energy initiative. Specifically, it provides businesses with RE100 consultation-, stakeholder mediation-, and power generation system maintenance-related services.

Last June, Oriental Brewery (OB) concluded an RE100 subscription agreement with Aeonus. OB is constructing solar power generation systems with an annual capacity of 12GWh in its plants in Gwangju, Cheongju, and Icheon. This is the first case in Korea to implement RE100 through self-consumption-based power generation systems.

British American Tobacco (BAT) Korea also signed an RE100 strategy consultation agreement with Aeonus.

Backed by the investment, Aeonus is projected to accelerate the development of technologies including battery diagnosis via imaging. It is also preparing to draw a series-A investment this year.

Aeonus CEO Heo Eun said, “Given the rapid growth of EV and secondary cell markets, demand for energy storage systems is expected to be more diversified. Improving system stability and securing more data, we will take the lead in the Battery as a Service (BaaS) market. We will ceaselessly conduct research on carbon-neutrality technologies for a sustainable future.”
