Warming up for spring…”company basketball tournament was held”

There is new about the company club activities, basketball tournament held in Jongno YMCA gym.

■ The basketball event for the whole employees
From the beginning of the year, under managing staffs, the company basketball club had prepared the great event in unison to make 2016 the most memorable year of its history. They aimed to plan the event not only for the members of the basketball club but also for the whole employees so that more people can enjoy it regardless of gender. Even after they prepared 3 on 3 game for men and free throw tournament for women based on such a concept and announced the events in the company, they were worried about a public response, however, thanks to so many people’s support and interest, the event was held on a grander scale that expected.

■ Free throws of the seven heroines
Following the explanation about basketball-rules and warm-up exercise, female workers’ free throw tournament marked the beginning of the event. Those who imagined the schoolgirls who sat clustered under the shadow of a tree and had a friendly chat in gym class couldn’t believe their eyes. The seven heroines with burning eyes and firm-set lips made no disguise their high competitive spirit from the beginning of the preliminary round. They presented a remarkable performance on a par with male players, making the three free throws of five chances.

■ 3 on 3 game paled from half court, C team won
The following event was men’s 3 on 3 game played from half court, which offered a variety of interesting attractions such as fierce battle for position under-the-basket and lightning pass, mazy dribble, middle-range shots that swerved into the net sharply, etc.  Six teams were divided into two leagues for elimination games. 6 games of the preliminary round were all fantastic and most matches were decided by only one or two goals, however, it was just a foretaste of what was to come, the finals where the top-ranked teams from the two leagues played. In the game, C team and D team showed thrilling final match like the NBA finals and after a close game of the old and the new with the burst of strength and skills, C team ended up winning the competition. 

■ The basketball club leader said, “More diverse programs will be made in the future”
After the tournament was over, the worker attended the after party to drink beer. They were occupied with encouraging each other’s fierce play that was like a battle a moment ago. Some ladies who joined the free throw tournament were also present and enjoyed chatting about appeal of basketball. They were really looking forward to the next event. The leader of the basketball club said “Basketball is no longer the preserve of men. Many women’s participation made this event more meaningful”. He also hoped “We are going to encourage employees’ more active participation by operating more diverse programs from now on.” *
